First, the free advice

Most plumbing emergencies get ten times worse in the time it takes to find a plumber's number. So before anything else: find your internal stop tap and turn it clockwise until it stops. In most Warwick homes it's under the kitchen sink. In older terraces it might be in the downstairs loo, under the stairs, or hiding behind a kickboard.

Can't find it or it's seized solid? That happens a lot, especially in houses where it hasn't been touched for twenty years. Call anyway and we'll find another way to stop the water, including the outside stop valve if it comes to it.

What counts as an emergency

• Burst or split pipes, including frozen pipes that have let go
• Water coming through a ceiling or light fitting
• A leak you can't isolate or stop
• No heating or hot water when it's cold, or in a home with young children or someone vulnerable
• An overflowing toilet or backed-up drain making the house unusable
• A smell of gas. Actually, for that one call the National Gas Emergency line first on 0800 111 999, then us for the repair afterwards

If you're not sure whether your problem is urgent, ring anyway. It costs nothing to ask, and we'd rather tell you "that'll safely wait until morning" than have you pay night rates for a job that didn't need them. That honesty is most of the reason people call us back.

What happens when you call

You get Luke, not a call handler reading a script. He'll ask what's happening, help you make it safe, and give you an honest cost and arrival time before setting off. Emergency call-outs can carry an extra fee depending on the hour and the job, but you'll know the number before we're on the road. No doorstep surprises.

One more thing worth saying: a proper repair, not a bodge. Plenty of emergency fixes around here get "made safe" with tape and a promise, and then the plumber vanishes. If we need to come back to finish a permanent repair in daylight, that gets booked before we leave.
